Have a talk with God

I’ve been attending an Experiencing God course this summer – a course on how God is at work all around us and how He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him – very good to get a reminder once in a while!

But that is not what I wanted to talk about…

One person in my group recommended this video from Godtube. I thought it was right on so many levels – I mean the clapping, come on 😉

The little nasty creatures attacking my body thought it would be a good idea doing it during our first (and hopefully not last) heatwave. Outside it’s 27 degrees Celsius – only 10.5 degrees below my own body temperature. Went to work today, where it’s cool and wonderful, but did not have the strength to go to prayer group afterwards. Which is kind of ironic, don’t you think…

Anyway, heard a nice thing on TV the other day. An interview with a women who had worked at Chernobyl. After the accident she moved to Finland, learned a new language and got a new occupation – from nuclear plant engineer to porcelain painter.

They asked her what advice she would give others to stay positive even when things around you seem less than bright.

The answer: Do something creative with your hands! And then she told this story:

After God had created man from the clay of the earth he had a small clump of clay left. So God asked man: Is there anything else you would like? And man said: Give me happiness. Then God handed the clump of clay over to the man.

And showing my own “creative” side I give you a picture of my bathroom. Strongly influenced by all the garlands you see online nowadays, I bought one for myself while I was in Scotland. But I’m not so sure I like it…

So I have to admit that when I moved to Turku I was quite tired. Church tired that is. And not tired from going to church but from all the responsibility I had in my church. The last year in Helsinki I had been: coordinator for the Action festival, head-dishwasher for Women’s brunch, leader of the ushers and organizer of the interpretation. Not all at once, but still… And all very fun things, but still…

So when I moved to Turku I thought; OK, this is my chance to just relax. Take it easy for a while and just be.

But what happened! I am now involved in building a church!

So I guess all Christians should be church-builders, but it is a bit different to belong to a church where there are hundreds of people and one where there are maybe 30.

What I am saying is that I now have to scrape off all the organizing, planning and list making that took up most of my life in my old church and instead focus on praying and building a family.

And I feel so blessed!

Blessed because of what I’ve learned in my old church. Blessed because of what God has thought me throughout my life. I’m so happy to have been a part of both Elim and Fila – and now Friffe.

Life is growth and God is the one who sends the rain to make it possible.

So this weekend it was time for the annual Action festival at my old church. And of course I went!

Beautiful people and music by Hillsong Stockholm and Fila’s own band. Plus Andreas Forsberg with band, who was forcing everyone he saw to buy his new CD.

And I even saw my cousin’s daughter Elin! Either I’m getting old or she is, I vote for the latter 🙂

Hillsong Stockholm

Andreas Forsberg & Friends

Andreas & Petter

Three beautiful ladies. Marie, Hanna and Mikaela. And Mixu was kind enough to let me sleep in her bed! I was kind enough to leave her with all the dishes…

Take home message from the weekend:

Just like we in today’s society are trusting the government and its organizations to care for people in need, we can look at the church in much the same way. We let the systems that already exist, in forms of outreach, Alpha groups, annual Christmas gifts for the poor and so on, dictate what we are able to do. Instead of looking at what we can do, we look at what our church can do… Quite a strange thing when you think about it.

It might be time to take some responsibility on an individual level!

We’re having a lecture series at work. About animal imaging. And I came to the conclusion that I know nothing about it. And that you soon have to know way too much about computers to be a scientist.

One of the lecturers was from Gotenborg. He was a Chinese with a very obvious Swedish accent. Except for when he spoke quickly, then he had the typical staccato of a Chinese. 🙂

My landlady came to visit today. She works in a bank, and acts the part. Her husband came too. He was the one measuring my bathroom cabinet. I’ll hopefully get a new one since the lamp cover got burnt by the previous tenant. jej, I like new things!

Then I washed a machine of white clothing and baked a bread. Here is the recipe:

  • 3 1/2 dl rye flour
  • 3 1/2 dl flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 dl sesame seeds
  • 1 dl raisins
  • 1 dl sunflower seeds
  • 1 dl oatbran (havrekli)
  • 1 dl pinhead oatmeal (urvete)
  • 1/2 dl syrup
  • 4 1/2 dl sourmilk
  • 2 egg

Mix the dry ingredients. Whip the others in a separate bowl. Mix all together. Bake at 175 degrees Celsius for about one hour. (I took this recipe from a book and you can basically vary it at much as you like. You don’t need to use eggs, you can add some lingon berry jam or use any kind of seeds or nuts, it’s good either way)

I’m not used to this regular oven. It’s too quiet! With the hot-air one you could always hear that there was a bread baking.

It took me one and a half hour to read the blogs on bloglovin today – half an hour was spent singing along to the worship songs on Stina’s blog. Especially “Prince of piece”. Here is a sample (and the lyrics):

  • You are holy (You are holy)
  • You are mighty (You are mighty)
  • You are worthy (You are worthy)
  • Worthy of praise (Worthy of praise)
  •
  • I will follow (I will follow)
  • I will listen (I will listen)
  • I will love You (I will love you)
  • All of my days (All of my days)
  •
  • I will sing to (You’re the lord of lords)
  • And worship (You’re the king of kings)
  • The King who (You are mighty God)
  • Is worthy (Lord of everything)
  • I will love Him (You’re emmanuel)
  • Adore Him (You’re the Great I am)
  • I will bow down (You’re the Prince of Peace)
  • before Him (Who is the lamb)
  • I will sing to (You’re the living God
  • And worship (You’re my saving grace)
  • The King who (You will reign forever)
  • Is worthy (You are acient of days)
  • I will love Him (You are Alpha Omega)
  • Adore Him (Beginning and End)
  • I will bow down (You’re my Savior Messiah)
  • Before Him (Redeemer and friend)
  • You’re my Prince of Peace
  • And I will live my life for You
